Nomsa, a girl Who Started Taking Care OF her Terminally ill at the age of ten.
We met Nomsa in the beginning the year of 2020 when she came to Tilder Foundation Trust, desperately looking for help.

She was only 16 years old when we first met her. She lamentedly narrated how, at the age of 10, she had to instinctively assume the role of a breadwinner and caregiver to her single mother who had been diagnosed with Kaposi Sarcoma Cancer, which rendered her unable to continue her work as a nurse.
How She Managed To Take Care Of Her Mother And The Household
Whilst other ten year olds were rightfully having the best times of their cheery lives. Nomsa’s circumstances compelled her to bear the burden of thinking how she would put food on the table, pay for the rent, and make sure that her mother’s cancerous wounds are well taken care of, as well as making sure that her mother unfalteringly took all her prescribed medications.
Due to her illness, Nomsa’s mother would occasionally become erratic towards her daughter, but Nomsa, young as she was, would exhibit astonishing patience, as she continued to nurse her mother heedfully.
Nomsa astonishingly managed to continue to juggle school with the carrying the weight of their household. School was a different experience altogether because she would religiously dash home during break time to turn her bedridden mother. She would also ensure that her mother is appropriately medicated before she rushed back to school.
Nomsa had no time to socialize because if she was not taking care of her ailing mother, she was on the hunt for food and rent. She would go around begging, so that she could find money for food, rent and other household needs.
Tilder Foundation Trust Intervened
Upon Learning of Nomsa’ s six-year long ordeal, we, as Tilder Foundation Trust, promptly responded to Nomsa’s cry for help and vowed to take the matter into our own hands and provide Nomsa with all necessities that would ameliorate her situation going forward. The issue touched the core of Tilder Foundation Trust, since it involved Children’s and Women Rights, as such , we organically intervened.
We Followed Up On Our Resolutions
Treating Nomsa’s case as a state of emergency, we instantly hit the ground running. Our first course of action was to relief Nomsa of the heading the household. As such, we acquired a caregiver for her mother and took care of the rent and other needs, just to allow her to fully concentrate on her schooling.
We Acquired The Stand
We resolved to building Nomsa and her mother a house of their own, so that they did not have to contend with tenantry woes ever again. We managed to reach out to our loyal supporters and were able to get donations to buy a stand where we would build the house. The Bulawayo City Council was helpful in ensuring that the whole process went smoothly and legally.
Companies and Individuals Came Together For The Building Project
Though acquiring the land was a huge achievement, it was only the first step. Building the house was the next immediate step we had to take, hence we approached various companies and encouraged them to join this good cause. We got positive response from companies Like PPC Zimbabwe, McDonald Bricks, Delcor Drilling, BARMCO Construction, and many other companies and individuals.
The Building Project Progress, So Far...
The Construction of the house is actively going on, albeit intermittently, because of the pandemic. The progress of the building project is noteworthy, although there is still need for funds to successfully complete the project.
