Tilder Foundation Trust learned of Lydia Tauya’s story through Social Media. We set out to visit her homestead to assess the situation and come up with a way we could help.
The dilapidated wheelchairs we found on our first visit.
Lydia’s Story
Lydia Tauya is a mother to three sons, Tafadzwa(21), Tobias(17), and Taedza(9). She recounted how all her children were born normal, but would gradually develop a crippling disability. All her sons cannot walk, have a slurred speech. Her three sons rely on necessities like wheelchairs, diapers, and caregivers.
The Tilder Foundation Trust noted the dire situation that Lydia was having to live under. Amongst other things, their wheelchairs were worn out, they’d have to scrap for food. Lydia could not look for a job because her sons needed her full attention. Her sons had dropped out of school due to lack of sufficient funds.
Lydia had isolated herself from any sort of socialization for fear of encountering the stigma that followed her predicaments.
Tilder Foundation Trust Intervention
After having witnessed Lydia’s situation on our first visit, Tilder Foundation Trust resolved to helping Lydia.

Tilder Foundation Trust, through its partners, managed to provide assistance in form of the following,
School fees and uniforms for the three sons to commence school,
Sourced a company that committed to drilling a borehole at Lydia’s homestead,
Fifty bags of mealie-meal, cooking oil and diapers,
Three brand new wheelchairs.
The Work Continues...
We continue to follow-up on Lydia and provide her and her sons’ well-being. Tilder Foundation Trust has resolved to continue help the family, so that the family has access to basic commodities, hence, we are still appealing for donations for the same cause.
